Mulching & Wood Chipping Mackay
On-site chipping of branches and green waste across Mackay, plus bulk mulch delivery for garden beds and landscaping work, fresh hardwood or aged compost, priced by the cubic metre.
Two situations bring people to us for mulching. The first is a pile of cut palm fronds, pruning waste or storm debris sitting in the yard with nowhere practical to go. The second is a landscaping project that needs cubic metres of mulch dropped on site before planting can start. The chipper handles the first problem and the tipper handles the second, and both can happen in a single visit if the timing works.
For on-site chipping, we bring the machine to your address and run anything up to about 200mm diameter through it. That covers most residential pruning waste, palm fronds, mango branches from a DIY trim and storm material from a wet season event. The chip stays on site in a pile for your use, or we load it back on the truck. Either way it avoids trailer runs to the transfer station and the associated tip fees. In Mackay's climate, fresh chip on garden beds breaks down faster than it would further south, which is good for soil conditioning but means you need a deeper initial layer.
For mulch delivery we carry fresh hardwood chip from our own removal jobs (good for paths, weed suppression and moisture retention around established tropicals) and aged composted mulch broken down enough for new plantings where fresh chip would pull nitrogen from the soil during decomposition. Priced by the cubic metre, delivered to your driveway. Spreading by the crew is an optional add-on if you do not want to barrow it yourself.

Mulching & Wood Chipping FAQs
What size branches can the chipper handle?
Up to around 200mm diameter clean through, which covers most residential pruning and storm material including palm fronds and mango limbs. Anything bigger gets cut down to size first, then the pieces go through the machine. Trunk rounds above that threshold get cut to length and either stacked or taken away.
Why use aged mulch instead of fresh chip?
Fresh chip is wood in the early stages of breaking down, it is still pulling nitrogen from the surrounding soil as the decomposition process runs. That is fine for paths and around established trees where you want weed suppression. For new plantings or garden beds where you are adding nutrients, aged compost mulch has already gone through that phase and is gentle on young root systems.
How much do I need to order?
For a 75 to 100mm mulch layer, one cubic metre covers roughly 10 to 13 square metres of garden bed. In Mackay's climate a 100mm layer makes more sense than 75mm because it holds moisture better through the dry months. Measure your beds and ring through the dimensions, we will work out the order so you do not end up with half a load left over on the driveway.
Can you deliver and spread in the same visit?
Yes. The standard arrangement is a tipper drop at the driveway. If you want the crew to rake it out across the beds rather than leaving a pile, that is added to the quote as a spreading line. Works well on larger jobs or when the physical work is not practical for the owner.
